Old Favourites

I've been blogging about books for almost two years now.

In that time I have discovered books by so many new authors. I fell in love with the New Adult genre, which in turn re-invigorated my love for contemporary romance.

Pre-New Adult discovery I was a paranormal romance, urban fantasy kind of chick.
I read contemporary romance but it was every now and again... This is how I now read paranormal and urban fantasy.
Every now and again.
It's not a major drama. Evolution and cycling of reading preferences is to be expected I guess, or else everything gets stale and boring.

However, lately I've been thinking about how some authors I used to LOVE I barely have a passing thought for.  I haven't been tracking their releases like I used to and I have fallen countless books behind in multiple series.
This makes me so sad.
I realise that I am one person and something has to give somewhere for me to do what I do but the fact that I have lost track of series that used to consume me is gutting.
I didn't stop loving the writing of those authors. I didn't stop caring about their characters. It's just that as they became more and more popular I had to wait longer and longer between books. This caused me to seek out things to read in between and... Displacement and lost trackiness.

So today I decided I was going to make a point of actively re-introducing paranormal and urban fantasy again. I am going to make a point of catching up with those once beloved series and see if they are still as awesome as I remember them to be.
I'm not going to leave the status quo of the occasional PNR / UF book here and there. No. I am going to properly make an effort to pick those books up again. To introduce myself to previously unread stories in those genres.
I miss the magic and things that go bump in the night. I want it back in my life.

The other thing I want back in my life is time to re-read my old favourites. I never really have time to re-read anymore and it sucks balls.
So, to allow for this I have halved my Goodreads target for this year.

I am going to kill two birds with one stone.
I'm going to bring the magic back into my life, re-read old favourites and catch up with once beloved series!
I'm kicking this off by having a re-read of the Vampire Academy novels.
This will feed into a re-read of the first 3 Bloodlines novels and then I can finally read the final 3 books in that series! Hurrah!

I'll decide what to pick up after that once I'm done with Richelle Mead's awesome YA series duo.

Watch this space for updates on the re-reads.

Feel free to comment on whether or not you re-read (I know many don't!)
Also, if you do re-read what books/worlds do you love sinking back into?

  1. I love to reread my favorite series. Especially if it has been awhile and I want to read the next bookinthe series. I hope you enjoy your reread :)

  2. I'm definitely a re-reader. I've been enjoying many of my books multiple times over the years. I can't count how many times I've read The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings. Sometimes I just need to revisit an old friend, it seems to make newer reads more interesting.
