Series: Second Verse (Book 0.5)
Publication Date: 10th July 2015
From the moment Kinsey Brock walks in on Emmett Hudson in the shower, she knows he’s going to be trouble. He’s sex with a Southern accent and a guitar, and he makes her heart go from zero to sixty just by darting his intense moss green eyes in her direction. But he’s also the grandson of the woman who took Kinsey in when she had no one else—and that means he’s off-limits.
Too bad for Kinsey that word isn’t in Emmett’s vocabulary.
But want, need, and more sure as hell are.
NOTE: Set eight years before the standalone novel SECOND VERSE (Coming July 2015), this prequel novella tells the story of Kinsey and Emmett’s first moments together. Both stories are intended for mature audiences.
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
First Verse is a novella length story that introduces us to the characters of Kinsey and Emmett.
Kinsey has had a shitty life, has just finished high school but things are looking up for her in the shape of a supportive foster carer, Mrs. H.
When Mrs. H’s grandson comes to town, sparks fly, and as you’d expect, they fall in love. It could have been a beautiful thing, but Emmett’s wicked bitch of a sister ensures that it all turns hideously ugly.
It’s gut-wrenching, heart-breaking and utterly infuriating. You want to wrap Kinsey in a bubble and spit-roast Emmett while hoping and praying that everything is ok in the end.
Of course, since this is a prequel novella for a full length novel – Second Verse – you know you aren’t getting happy ever after in this one and the story ends with an almighty bitch slap leaving you screaming “NEED IT NOW” for the next book because it can’t end like that but how can there be forgiveness?
I guess we’ll see!
I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump this year and its stories like this that remind me why I love reading so damn much.
