Review: Consolation by Corinne Michaels
Series: The Consolation Duet (Part 1)
Publication Date: 18th March 2015
Liam wasn’t supposed to be my happily ever after.
He wasn’t even on my radar.
He was my husband’s best friend—forbidden.
But my husband is dead and I’m alone. I ache for him and I reach for Liam.
One night with Liam changed everything. Now I have to decide if I truly love him or if he’s just the consolation prize.
My Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars
What can you say about a book that breaks your heart, makes you fall in love (putting said broken heart back together again) and then right at the very end, when you should be basking in the happy feels, kicks you in the proverbial balls, jumps up and down on your rib cage and giggles manically at how spectacularly it has just shit on your happiness?
Exactly. I don't really know either.
It's a good book, it's well written, thought provoking, interesting and heart wrenching with a wonderful, slow building, romance to enjoy.... But the god-damned cliffhanger ending was a ruinous doozy that sent me into a fit of absolute rage.
Plus, I couldn't help but find Natalie annoying. Yes, she lost her husband and is more than entitled to grieve in whatever way - and for however long - she likes but I wanted to tell her to get her shit together, and get over it, more than once - for it made the book drag - and I guess that makes me a bit of a heartless bitch.
I'd recommend the book to those who like angst and to those who enjoy cliffhangers or those who hate cliffhangers but have the final part of this 'duet' on their kindle ready to inhale immediately after finishing the last page.
